Vertigo is the false sensation that you or your surroundings are moving. It can also describe feelings of dizziness, lightheadedness, faintness, or unsteadiness. Vertigo is usually caused by a malfunction of the vestibular system, which includes portions of our inner ear. Head injury, stroke, and viruses can be underlying causes of vertigo as well.
WHAT CAN BE DONE?
First, you must receive a balance assessment to determine the cause and possible courses of ac on to treat the balance disorder. Audiologists can perform these evaluations and either provide treatment or make the appropriate referral.
In many cases, vertigo can be successfully treated through vestibular rehabilitation, medical treatment or a combination of both. Medication, Physical Therapy, Dietary changes, or repositioning maneuvers may also be helpful.
