"Hearing loss crept up on me until my wife got tired of repeating everything and suggested that I consult an Audiologist. I started out with single channel analog aids. They were very unsatisfactory so I switched to In-the-Ear digital aids. They were better, but it felt like someone had their fingers stuck in my ears. For as long as I can remember I have had a difficult time hearing. It had finally gotten to the point that my hearing problem was affecting my job and personal relationships.

I had gone to several audiology centers, then Hearing Rehab. I was so pleased that the audiologist at Hearing Rehab really took an interest in my hearing problem.

The loss of my hearing had a deep emotional affect on my self-confidence. Loss is loss, but hearing loss cut me off from people and much of the time I felt "left out" and inept.

When I received my hearing aids I couldn't believe what I had been missing! The day I wore them in the office at Hearing Rehab I was overwhelmed with sound. Fortunately, my audiologist explained that my brain would soon adjust and that the sounds I was now hearing would not be overwhelming.

It has been close to a year since I have received my hearing aids. While I will never hear perfectly, I now hear! I hear the birds, the doorbell, my customers and my family and friends. My personal confidence has increased and I feel so grateful that we live in a time when help - aid - hearing aids are available.

This past year my wonderful friends at Hearing Rehab have helped to change my life for the better. They are always there to explain things about my hearing loss to me, adjust my hearing aids and provide advice and understanding.

"Having Low Vision can be difficult at times but not hearing makes life much harder to cope with each day. Chairing a meeting, I found I was not hearing all that was said. That told me I needed to do something. Coming to the Hearing Rehab Center and being evaluated was easy and they were so helpful... "Several years ago I noticed that some people just didn't seem to enunciate well or they talked too softly for me to understand every word they said.  At only 50 years old, my limited hearing loss negatively impacted my enjoyment of conversation - especially at family gatherings.  My hearing loss also caused some embarrassment to me and my wife when I incorrectly guessed what someone said then responded with an incorrect reply, or just laughed to "cover" my misunderstanding of what the person had said.

What an improvement the hearing aids made in my life!  Words are crisper and more understandable, which is a big plus for me since I work with the public.  With my hearing aids I rarely say, "What?"  The hearing aids are so comfortable, I hardly know they are there.  The thing I like most about wearing hearing aids is that, even in noisy restaurants and without straining to catch every word, I am able to enjoy conversations with my daughter-in-law and a sister-in-law who both have soft voices.
